Meet our Board of Directors - Simon Wilson

Meet Simon Wilson, LHCPG Board Chair. In his own words, Simon “makes things happen”. He helps to bring strategic ideas to life though leading operational, commercial, programme and transformation teams in complex customer-focused organisations that strive to make a difference in society.

He has particular expertise in outsourced business, professional services and real estate on both the client and supply sides, supported by a wide experience across a diverse range of roles and sectors.

Simon’s deep understanding of the UK public sector has been developed through senior roles within defence and security, police, housing and the Crown Commercial Service, combined with experience across both central and local government.

Simon’s rich career and commitment to innovation, governance, and social impact make him an integral leader for LHCPG.

We asked Simon the following questions.

Can you share a little about your professional background and expertise?

My career has been quite eclectic. I began as an Army Officer specialising in logistics, ammunition, and explosives, which included work as a bomb disposal operator.

After earning my MBA, I transitioned to the corporate world, working for a global engineering firm constructing chemical plants. I later managed operational services at a prestigious law firm and took on similar responsibilities at McKinsey & Company.

My journey also included becoming a Partner at a global real estate firm, serving top-tier clients like Facebook, Adobe, and Expedia. I was also on the Board of a security company overseeing parking operations across UK airports and railway stations.

Public service has also been a key focus, with commercial and programme leadership roles at the Metropolitan Police, UK Parliament, Defence Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Defence.

Notably, I was Chair of the Heart of London Business Alliance – enhancing the reputation of Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square – and held leadership roles at Aldwyck Housing Group and the Northern Estates Programme.

What drew you to LHC Procurement Group?

I had extensive experience with framework providers, but LHCPG was new to me when I came across the Chair's role. The more I learned, the more I found its values aligned with my own.

The opportunity to contribute to an organisation with such a strong history, while helping to refine its focus and expand its societal impact, was incredibly exciting.

What is your role on the Board, and where do you envision LHC Procurement Group in the next three years?

As Board Chair, I am legally responsible for ensuring proper governance and financial stability.

Beyond that, I am assembling a diverse and skilled Board with representatives from member organisations and independents, all focused on helping the leadership team expand our reach and social impact.

In three years, I hope to see LHCPG as a leader in delivering innovative, tailored frameworks that truly meet customer needs while driving social value.

What are the key priorities for framework providers, from your perspective?

Framework providers should prioritise:

Meeting customer needs – Understanding clients and creating frameworks that genuinely serve their requirements, avoiding generic solutions.

Driving innovation – Partnering with suppliers to challenge norms and deliver unique services that make a difference.

Providing value for money – Ensuring the value added by the framework outweighs any additional costs to the supply chain.

What are you passionate about outside of work?

My most significant recent project was planning my wedding in July, which we hosted at home.

Sustainability was a key theme; we built tables from reclaimed floorboards and sourced chairs destined for disposal. It was challenging but rewarding.

I dance three times a week – Ballroom, Jive, and even dance acrobatics, which is ambitious for my age! I also regularly enjoy going to the theatre and concerts.
