Training tomorrow’s leaders, today

Our people and teams are our greatest asset here at LHC, and they are instrumental to our growth and excellence across the business. It’s the reason we place such great importance on investing in our people and fostering their growth and development through comprehensive training programmes and continuous learning opportunities that help them reach their full potential.

This year has seen the launch of our very own in-house talent development programme, Tomorrow’s Leaders, which has been designed and developed alongside our leadership and development consultancy partners, Human Dimensions. The training programme runs for ten-months throughout 2024 and 2025, and is one of several People and Culture initiatives that we run to support our staff and their professional development.

Participants will explore leadership models, theories and approaches and, most importantly, how to translate those theories into real world application. The programme also aims to respond to the individual and collective needs of the participants and the organisation and nurture those talents, both now and in the future, developing a group of future leaders who can understand the perspectives of our different regional business units and help shape our culture.

Five participants from Group and the regional businesses were selected for this year's course based on their previous personal development contributions. Each participant was also recognised as understanding LHC’s values, mission and vision and how leadership within the organisation requires alignment with our fundamental goals of improving lives and places. They have committed to investing time and effort into participating with the different elements of the programme.

George Stevens, Director of Communities at LHC Procurement Group said:

“We are absolutely delighted to launch the Tomorrow’s Leaders programme at LHC. Development is something we have done well in the past and this bespoke programme adds a new dimension to our training and represents our commitment to investing in our people, growing a new layer of leaders and ensuring we have the very best teams to deliver our mission.  We know that it’s not just about selecting the best people; it’s also about nurturing their talents and providing opportunities to develop and grow every day. I am looking forward to seeing how the programme progresses and the positive impact that it will have on those completing it.”

Penny Searson, Regional Manager at SWPA and one of the six participants on the new programme commented:

“I’m absolutely thrilled that LHC has decided to deliver this course to colleagues. Providing an opportunity such as this really demonstrates LHC’s commitment to staff retention and business growth from within. I initially chose to join LHC, as we are a not-for-profit organisation, with a real genuine interest in improving communities, whilst delivering an excellent service. I have seen significant changes across the business in respect of our service delivery and social value proposition, which makes for an extremely exciting future, and I feel privileged to have been a part of LHC’s journey so far and look forward to seeing what the future holds.”

The programme is facilitated by Steve Tarpey from Human Dimensions, who shared his thoughts about how the training is progressing so far:

“I’ve been associated with LHC for a few years now and have always been impressed by the quality of the people I’ve met and their commitment to the organisation. This commitment is mirrored by the organisation’s desire to create a strong people-focussed culture. I’m delighted to have the opportunity to be working with the first cohort of the new Tomorrow’s Leaders programme, and I’m already impressed by their desire to squeeze as much as they can from the sessions and the way they are supporting and challenging each other in their development. It’s been a great start, and I look forward to the coming months.”

Our investment in training is an investment in the future, ensuring that we remain agile, competitive, and prepared to meet the challenges of tomorrow. We wish all the participants of this year’s Tomorrow’s Leaders programme the very best of luck in the completion of the course and we look forward to seeing how they progress.
